Alexa reminders alternative: reminders in WhatsApp
Updated . Prices and features checked against each product's own website.
If you're looking for an Alexa reminders alternative because the reminder goes off in the kitchen while you're out, Mindie sends reminders as WhatsApp messages. They reach your phone wherever you are, and you reply in the same chat to snooze them or mark them done.
At home, asking Alexa out loud is hard to beat.

The short answer
- Stay with Alexa if you want a voice assistant at home that also runs your smart home, plays music and handles routines across Echo devices.
- Try Mindie if your reminders need to reach you away from the speaker, or you'd rather type or send a voice note than talk to a device.

Where Alexa is better
Alexa is built for the home. You speak and it answers, it controls smart home devices, and with Alexa+ you can set up routines just by asking. It can also pull calendar events from a photo of a schedule or a forwarded email, and a conversation carries over from your Echo to your phone or computer. If most of your reminders are for things you do at home, it covers a lot.
Where Mindie fits
Mindie is a contact in your WhatsApp. You text it the way you'd text a friend ("pay rent on the 5th at 10am"), or send a voice note or a screenshot, and it replies with the time it understood. If you leave out a time, it asks. At the right moment it messages you in the same chat, and you reply to mark it done, snooze it or move it.
Because Mindie lives in WhatsApp, a reminder lands between your chats on whatever phone you carry, even when you're nowhere near a speaker. Repeats are easy to set ("every weekday at 8", "every 3 months"), and if a reminder matters, nag mode keeps nudging until you reply done. Mindie also adds events to Google Calendar or Outlook, and you can ask what's on today without opening the calendar.
Using both
Keep Alexa for home: music, lights and routines. Send Mindie the reminders and appointments that need to find you during the day. The two don't sync, so pick one home for each kind of reminder.
Price
Mindie is free for 7 days with every feature. A card is saved at checkout, nothing is charged during the trial, and Mindie texts you two days before it ends. After that it's $9 a month or $90 a year, with a 7-day money-back guarantee on the first payment. Cancel any time by texting "cancel". See pricing or start your trial.
Questions
Is Mindie hands-free like Alexa?
No. You open WhatsApp and type or record a voice note. There's no speaker and no wake word.
Can Mindie add events to my calendar?
Yes, to Google Calendar or Outlook. You can also ask "what's on Friday?" and it tells you.
Does Mindie control smart home devices?
No. Mindie handles reminders, notes, lists and calendar events. It doesn't control lights, music or other devices.
Can I get a reminder when I'm away from my Echo?
Yes. Mindie's reminders arrive as WhatsApp messages, so they reach your phone wherever you are, with no speaker in the room.
Can I set a reminder by talking?
Yes, by sending a voice note in WhatsApp. It isn't a wake word, so you open the chat and record first. Mindie then writes out what you said and sets the reminder.
