Mortgage payment reminder on WhatsApp

Updated .

A mortgage payment reminder on WhatsApp is a monthly message that arrives a few days before the payment leaves your account. Set it once with Mindie, for example "every month on the 28th at 7pm remind me the mortgage comes out on the 1st, check the joint account", and it repeats every month until you stop it.

Most mortgages are paid by direct debit or autopay, so the risk isn't forgetting to pay. It's the account being short on the day. One unexpected bill, a late paycheck or money left in savings can make a payment fail, and a failed mortgage payment brings fees and a mark you don't want on your record.

When to be reminded

  • Two or three days before the payment date. Enough time to move money between accounts, even over a weekend.
  • On payday. If you move the mortgage money to a separate account, a reminder on payday gets it there before it gets spent.
  • Months before a rate change. If your fixed rate or term ends soon, a one-off reminder three months ahead gives you time to compare options.

Why mortgage payments go wrong

  • Autopay hides the date. When you never press pay, the payment date stops being something you think about.
  • Joint accounts need two people. If you and a partner both pay in, it's easy for one transfer to be late.
  • Rate changes move the amount. A new rate or escrow adjustment can change the payment, and the old transfer no longer covers it.

Habits that help

  • Put the amount in the reminder. "Transfer $2,150" means you don't have to look it up each month. Update it when the payment changes.
  • Keep the key dates as a note. Send Mindie "note: mortgage term ends June 2027, lender ref 48213" and ask for it when you need it.
  • Check the statement once a year. Set a yearly reminder to read the annual statement and see what's left to pay.

How Mindie handles it

  1. You send one message with the day, time and anything you want to see, typed or as a voice note.
  2. Mindie confirms what it understood, like "Every month on the 28th at 7:00 pm".
  3. Each month it messages you in your own timezone. Reply "done" once the account is topped up, or "snooze 2 hours" if you're busy.

If the payment date or amount changes, just tell Mindie, for example "change my mortgage reminder to $2,240". Turn on nag mode if you want it to keep nudging until you reply done.

What Mindie doesn't do

  • It doesn't pay the mortgage or move money. It has no access to your bank or lender.
  • It doesn't message your partner or lender. Reminders come to your own WhatsApp chat only.
  • It isn't financial advice. For rates, overpayments or refinancing, talk to your lender or a qualified adviser.

Questions

My mortgage is on autopay. Why would I need a reminder?

Autopay only works if the money is there. A reminder a few days before lets you check the balance and top up the account so the payment doesn't fail.

Can Mindie remind me when my fixed rate or term ends?

Yes. Set a one-off reminder a few months before the end date, plus a deadline heads-up if you want an early nudge and one on the day.

Does Mindie connect to my lender or bank?

No. It only sends you reminders on WhatsApp. It never sees your account or makes payments.

How early before the payment should it be?

A few days before gives you time to make sure the money is in the account. Your lender sets the actual payment date.

Can I set a yearly reminder to review my mortgage?

Yes. Set one for any date, to check your rate and balance, and talk to your lender or an adviser about your options.

This page explains how to set the reminder with Mindie. It isn't financial, legal or medical advice; check dates and doses with the people who set them. Checked on 31 October 2026.
