Retirement contribution reminder on WhatsApp
Updated .
A retirement contribution reminder on WhatsApp is a message that tells you to put money into your retirement account, or to check that the automatic contribution went in. Set it with Mindie in plain words, for example "every month on the 26th at 8pm remind me to put $500 into my IRA", and it repeats every month.
If you're employed, contributions often come straight out of your paycheck. If you're self-employed, between jobs or topping up a personal account, nothing happens unless you do it. And yearly limits and deadlines are easy to miss when they only come round once.

Monthly, after payday
Before the yearly deadline
Review once a year
When to be reminded
- Right after payday. Money that moves to retirement first doesn't get spent by accident.
- Before the tax-year deadline. Many accounts let you contribute for the previous year up to a set date. A heads-up a few weeks ahead leaves time to find the money.
- Once a year to review. A pay rise or new job is a good moment to look at your contribution rate.
Why contributions get skipped
- Irregular income. Freelancers and contractors don't have a payroll that does it for them, so a busy month means a missed one.
- Deadlines that come once a year. A date you see once every twelve months is hard to keep in your head.
- Job changes. A new employer can reset your contributions to zero until you enrol again.
Habits that help
- Put the amount and account in the reminder. "Put $500 into my IRA" is quicker to act on than "retirement".
- Keep a note of your plan. Send Mindie "note: aiming for $6,000 IRA this year" and ask for it when you review.
- Set a goal with progress. Track how many monthly contributions you've made toward the year.
How Mindie handles it
- You send one message with the schedule or deadline, typed or as a voice note.
- Mindie confirms what it understood, like "Every month on the 26th at 8:00 pm" or an early heads-up plus the deadline day.
- It messages you in your own timezone. Reply "done" once the money has moved, or "snooze until tomorrow".
Nag mode keeps nudging until you reply done, useful for the one contribution a year you can't afford to miss.
What Mindie doesn't do
- It doesn't move money or connect to your bank, employer or retirement provider.
- It isn't financial or tax advice. It won't tell you which account to use, how much to put in or what to invest in.
- It doesn't track limits. Check contribution limits with your provider or a qualified adviser.
Questions
Can Mindie remind me before the yearly contribution deadline?
Yes. Send "remind me before 15 April to make my IRA contribution" and Mindie gives you an early heads-up plus a reminder on the day.
Will Mindie tell me how much to contribute?
No. Mindie doesn't give financial or tax advice. Put the amount you've chosen in the reminder and it repeats it back to you.
Does it work for pensions and accounts outside the US?
Yes. The reminder is just text and a date, so it works for a 401(k), IRA, SIPP, RRSP, super top-up or any other account.
Can I set a monthly reminder to contribute?
Yes. If you don't contribute automatically, set a reminder for just after payday.
Can I save what I contributed?
Yes. Send a note after each payment, and ask for your notes at year end. An adviser or your plan provider can check your limits.
This page explains how to set the reminder with Mindie. It isn't financial, legal or medical advice; check dates and doses with the people who set them. Checked on 31 October 2026.
