Subscription renewal reminder on WhatsApp

Updated .

A subscription renewal reminder on WhatsApp is a message that arrives before a free trial turns into a paid plan, or before a yearly subscription renews. Set it with Mindie the moment you sign up, for example "remind me on 12 November at 6pm that the streaming trial ends on the 14th", and you get the chance to cancel before you're charged.

Subscriptions are designed to be forgotten. Free trials quietly become monthly charges, and yearly plans renew at full price twelve months after you've stopped using them.

When to set it

  • The moment you start a trial. You know the end date then; you won't later.
  • One or two days before the trial ends. Not on the day itself, when it may already be too late.
  • Two weeks before a yearly renewal. Enough time to decide, downgrade or switch.
  • Once a month for everything. A "check my subscriptions" reminder on the last day of the month catches the ones you forgot to note.

Why subscriptions cost more than they should

  • Trials end silently. There's rarely a warning email, or it goes to spam.
  • Yearly renewals are a year apart. Nobody remembers what they signed up for last spring.
  • Small charges hide. A few small monthly plans add up to a full amount without ever feeling like one.

Habits that keep them under control

  • Keep a subscriptions list. Ask Mindie to keep a list, add each service with its price and renewal date, and ask for it when you review.
  • Note how to cancel. Some services hide the cancel option; a note saying where it is saves time later.
  • Check the card statement. Your monthly card bill reminder is a good moment to spot charges you don't recognise.

How Mindie handles it

  1. Send the reminder as soon as you sign up, with the end date in the message.
  2. Mindie confirms the day and time, then messages you when it's due.
  3. Repeat yearly renewals with "every year on…", and they come back each year.

What Mindie doesn't do

  • It doesn't cancel anything. You still cancel in the app or website.
  • It doesn't scan your bank for subscriptions. It only knows what you tell it.

Questions

How do I avoid being charged after a free trial?

Set a reminder a day or two before the trial ends, the moment you sign up. "Remind me on the 12th at 6pm that the trial ends on the 14th" is enough.

Can I keep a list of all my subscriptions?

Yes. Ask Mindie to keep a list called subscriptions, add each one with its price and renewal date, and ask for the list whenever you review them.

Does Mindie cancel subscriptions for me?

No. It reminds you; cancelling is done in the service itself.

How early should I be reminded of a yearly renewal?

A week or two before gives you time to decide, because some services need notice before they renew. Check their terms.

Can I set one from a receipt?

Yes. Send a screenshot of the email, and Mindie reads the renewal date and checks it with you before setting the reminder.

This page explains how to set the reminder with Mindie. It isn't financial, legal or medical advice; check dates and doses with the people who set them. Checked on 31 October 2026.
