Rent reminder on WhatsApp

A rent reminder on WhatsApp is a monthly message that arrives a little before rent is due, in the chat you already check all day. With Mindie you set it once in plain words, for example "remind me on the 28th of every month at 7pm to pay rent", and it comes back every month until you stop it.

The useful part is the timing. A reminder on the due date itself often arrives too late: the transfer limit is used up, the money is in the wrong account, or you're in a meeting until evening. A reminder two or three days early gives you room to sort all of that out.

When to set your rent reminder

Pick the moment you can actually act, not the deadline.

• Two or three days before the due date. Enough time to move money and pay without rushing. This suits most people.
• On payday. If rent leaves right after salary arrives, a reminder on payday helps you set the money aside before it gets spent.
• On the due date, as a backup. Some people set both: an early one to pay, and a second one on the day to check it went through.

Choose an hour you're likely to be free. Seven in the evening works better than nine in the morning for most people with a commute.

Why rent gets paid late

Rent is rarely late because someone can't pay. It's late because a monthly task is easy to lose:

• Monthly is the hardest rhythm to remember. Daily habits stick; things that happen once a month fall out of your head between one month and the next.
• Pay dates and rent dates don't line up. If salary lands on the 30th and rent is due on the 1st, one bank holiday is enough to push it late.
• Apps you don't open don't help. A reminder buried in a calendar or a to-do app you check once a week arrives, but you don't see it.

Habits that keep rent on time

• Keep the amount in the reminder. "Pay rent of $1,800 to Mr Bennett" means you don't have to search for the figure or the account.
• Save the payment details as a note. Send Mindie "note: rent goes to Chase account ending 1234, reference Flat 4B" and ask for it when you pay.
• Keep the receipt. Screenshot the transfer confirmation. It settles any "did you pay?" conversation in seconds.
• Ask about late fees once. If your agreement has a late fee, it's worth knowing the grace period. A reminder that lands before it is cheaper than one after.

How Mindie handles it

1. You send one message with the day and time, in your own words or as a voice note.
2. Mindie confirms what it understood, for example "Every month on the 28th at 7:00 pm".
3. Every month it messages you in your chat with it, in your own timezone.

To move it, reply "move my rent reminder to the 27th". To pause it for a month away, just delete it by name and set it again when you're back; Mindie asks for a plain yes before deleting anything. Ask "what's due this week?" at any point to see what's coming.
